ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

The Prefecture of Chios with those of Samos and Lesvos constitute the Region of Northern Aegean that is one from the 13 Administrative Regions in which Greece is divided..
The Prefecture of Chios is divided into ten municipalities:

• Municipality Chios
• Municipality Kampohoron
• Municipality of Saint Month
• Municipality Jonias
• Municipality Mastihohoron
• Municipality Omiroupolis
• Municipality Amanis
• Municipality Kardamilon
• Municipality Psaras
• Municipality Oinousses

MUNICIPALITY CHIOS

The older municipality of the Prefecture and the most complete in respect of personnel and equipment. It has the higher population (22,836 residents) and unfolds around the city of Chios its harbour, the airport and almost the main services of the island.

MUNICIPALITY IONIAS

The Municipality Ionias was created from the joining of the Municipalities of Anemona and Ionia. It is constituted of 11 municipal departments and 16 settlements and is found in the Eastern and Southern part of the island. In Kallimasia is the town hall of the Municipality where the financial and administrative services are accomodated. It has a population of 4,728 people.

MUNICIPALITY PSARAS

Psaras is formed from a cluster of islands and rocky islands that are found west of Chios. In the bigger island (named Psaras) it is found the historical settlement of Psaras with a population of 433 people and it is the seat of the Municipality.

DIMOS OINOYSSES

Oinousses are found north-east of Chios and are a cluster of small islands. The total extent of Oinousses is 17.5 square kilometres and the population is 1,043 people.

MUNICIPALITY MASTIHOHORION

The Municipality Mastihohorion is located in southern Chios. It has a population of 4,793 people and it has been formed after the merge of Armolia, Kalamotis, Patrikon, Fatherly, Vessas, Elatas, Lithiou, Mesta, Pirgi and Olympon. Seat of the Municipality is Pirgi town.

MUNICIPALITY AMANIS

It is found in the North West part of Chios island and is constituted of the communities of Volissos, Pyramas, Parparias, Tripes, Melanious, Ag. Gallas, Nenitourion, Kourounion, Leptopodon, Keramou, Potamias, Pispilountas, Futon, Kipouries and Dieyhon. Seat of Municipality Amanis is Volissos with a population of 2,569 residents.

MUNICIPALITY OMIROYPOLIS

The Municipality Omiroypolis finds itself in the Eastern part of the island and has a population of 7,100 people. It was formed from the merge of the Municipality Vrontadou and the communities Lagkadas, Sykiadas, Karyes and Sidirountas.

MUNICIPALITY KARDAMILON

It is found in the north-eastern part of Chios and has a population of 2,822 people. Seat of the municipality is the town of Kardamila.

MUNICIPALITY OF SAINT MINAS

The Municipality of Saint Minas was formed after the merge of districts of Thymianon and Neochoriou. It is the smallest of the Municipalities and is located in the centre of the island. It has a population of 2.682 residents and seat of the Municipality is the town of Thymiana.

MUNICIPALITY KAMPOHORON

Seat of the Municipality Kampohoron is the town of Halkeios in the centre of Chios. It was formed from the merge of Vasilioniko, Dafnona, Vavylon, Ververato, St. George Sykousi, Zyfia and Halkeious. It has a population of 3.284 residents.
